New Zealand's Immigration Requirements

New Zealand enjoys welcoming international visitors, and we want every delegate's experience to be memorable for the right reasons. Delegates are encouraged to make sure all their travel documents are in order well before departure.

On arrival in New Zealand, delegates will need to carry a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond their intended departure date.

Visa Waiver Countries and the NZeTA

Many delegates will be eligible to travel under New Zealand's visa waiver programme. Travellers from visa waiver countries can apply online for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) rather than a visitor visa. NZeTAs are typically processed within 24 hours, with travellers advised to allow up to 72 hours for approval. The NZeTA permits business and conference travel.

Visitor Visas

For delegates requiring a visitor visa, New Zealand offers a streamlined visitor entry process for international conferences. Most visa and travel authorisation applications are completed entirely online through the Immigration New Zealand (INZ) digital platform, making the process reasonably simple and accessible for attendees worldwide. INZ typically processes visa applications within one to two weeks, provided all supporting documentation is submitted accurately and in full. However, to allow for any unforeseen delays, we strongly recommend applying as early as possible and allowing at least one month, and preferably longer, for processing. Dedicated Conference Support

For the ISRM 2031 congress, NZGS will engage a local Professional Conference Organiser (PCO). The congress will issue supporting letters for all delegates requiring a visa. In addition, for conferences expecting 30 or more international attendees, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) provides dedicated conference support and works directly with the PCO to help make the process as seamless as possible. The PCO will engage with INZ early, and a dedicated INZ customer service contact will be assigned to assist with visa planning, application guidance, and attendee communications. This helps provide delegates with confidence when planning their travel to New Zealand.

On Arrival: New Zealand Traveller Declaration

All visitors coming into New Zealand, including those on approved visas, travellers from visa waiver countries, New Zealand permanent residents and citizens, must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. This can be completed online within 24 hours before travel to New Zealand. The declaration is a simple form requiring basic information that helps facilitate customs and biosecurity clearance on arrival.
